Why Is the Name of Jesus So Powerful, or Judgmental, or Shocking?

Why Is the Name of Jesus So Powerful, or Judgmental, or Shocking? The name of Jesus has always been either a Powerful word suggesting one’s belief in God through his Son and teacher. However,  completely contrary to this, the Name Jesus has also caused people who are tired of judgment and religious righteousness to scowl. Which one are you and why?

Why Is the Name of Jesus So Powerful, or Judgmental, or Shocking?

When I was very young and unable to identify sexuality or even social disparity and prejudice of anything from homosexuality to color and classes, I searched hard for a spiritual reason for life. I called upon God to answer my question and was open to hearing it, even though I remember trembling when I asked the question in my bed so long ago. In my innocence, at the age of 7, with the family’s Catholic bible right next to my bed, a warm blue light came into my bedroom. It was night and the family was either sleeping or watching television. I was alone in my bedroom. Next to my family’s large white and gold embossed family bible given to my parents for their wedding was also a deck of playing cards.

When the warm light got my attention, I asked it (somehow knowing it was a presence I wanted to understand), “Are you God?”

The silence was so deep I could hear my own heart beating. So, in my innocence I grabbed my deck of card and said again, “Jesus, if this is you, make this first card be a Jack of Hearts.”

My heart beat harder and faster as I revealed the first card. It was, indeed, a Jack of Hearts. I closed my eyes and began to thank God and Jesus for answering my prayers. However, I was tempted to find out if God or Jesus would continue to show itself as real with more tests. So, I asked two more times what the next card would be. Ace of spades. (It was.) Seven of diamonds. (It was.)

When I laid down on the bed, I simply let the presence of God envelope me, hold me, and asked it to teach me. From that day, I have always been a seeker of truth. Sometimes, especially at the beginning of my search, I was most interested in Jesus and the power of that name.

My spiritual search continued until I came to a large gap around the age of 25, as I started to find myself having to hide my sexual nature or be prayed over incessantly for demons, I retreated from regular Christianity after 5 years of struggle.

Even as I go back into my old journals around this time, I can see that my life was a constant fight, struggle, and juxtaposition of loving and hating myself during those times of being in the traditional Christian churches.

So, unable to stand the feeling of depression and not wanting to be unhappy in my 7 years of complete celibacy leading up to this decision, I decided to try and find a religion or a spiritual path that included Jesus and God, but didn’t include judgement or prejudice. I spent the next 25 years in New Thought spirituality, which is solely based in Christianity, but is open to the beautiful concepts of other religions, such as the prayerful and meditative ways of Buddhism, as one example.

Finding Jesus Again, In a New Way!

When I met my husband, I was looking for a prayer partner, someone who shared my beliefs and who would get together with me frequently to discuss spirituality and pray together, because I firmly believed in the scripture, “where two or more are gathered together, there I am in your presence!”

David and I met online on a relationship dating app. He wrote a witty email to me, which made me laugh. Because he lived in Dublin, I thought there was no fear in befriending someone I’d probably never meet. In fact, we never met physically for 8 months, when he got laid off of his 10 year job and was collecting unemployment. He hadn’t had a vacation in a long time, and I had felt comfortable enough with him from Skyping everyday for 2 hours (praying and talking about spirituality and life–we also laughed a lot) to invite him for a visit.

He got a hotel room, nearby, so we could have the space to get to know each other slowly. His vacation was for ten days. I would say by the end of the 10 days, I was convinced this would be my husband. David needed a few more months and another month with me in the U.S. to decide. Basically, when we go back to our feelings from that time, both of us were led by God to be in our current marriage. There is no doubt in either of our minds, this meeting was divine.

After going through the process of a fiancé visa, it was another 9 months before we would be together again in our new apartment in beautiful Lake Emerald in southern Florida. The first years of getting to know each other as husbands were wonderful and difficult at the same time, because there was so much change for David. However, no matter what, we stuck to our plan of praying everyday together. This had been the case for every evening, except, perhaps, 3-4 nights in the entire 4 years we’ve known each other. Our spiritual belief has built a strong foundation for us and continues to be the glue that holds us together, binds our hearts, and directs us each day in love and compassion. I have never looked back. That being said…

Lately, during the Covid virus pandemic, my husband and I have been avidly devouring spiritual books, including and especially the Christian bible, especially the New Testament. Although David believed in Jesus, he grew up Catholic, which usually means that reading the bible is not a spiritual practice often used. Reading the bible is more present in Protestant practices. So, David does the reading, and I listen and answer questions, since I’m the one who has read the bible in its entirety three times and the New Testament hundreds of times.

In this latest pass with David, I’m finding words and phrases I have heard a thousand times (as I had been a minister for many years) have new meaning in our new normal, in this pandemic. I’d adjure you to do the same. Find time to open your heart for the spiritual understanding we need to get through any crisis, including the one we are presently experiencing. It doesn’t matter how you came to this belief or if you use the same words as I. Spirituality is yours. You get to decide what you want to believe. Choose though! Plug into it!

Plugging Into God

In retrospect I have found that not only Jesus, but his apostles and disciples spent the majority of their time and ministry in the art of healing bodies and minds from what they considered a negative (demonic in those days) connection or over taking of the mind or body. The secret to healing was to call on the Holy Spirit, in the Name and by the Power of Jesus Christ. This is by direction of Jesus when he returned to the apostles in the Upper Room after his resurrection.

When Jesus left the Earth in body, Jesus gave the people of the Earth (believers and nonbelievers) the Holy Spirit. But, you had to believe and ask in the name of Jesus (in my estimation like getting a document to use God’s credit card or name to make decisions).  After Jesus left the Upper Room, he sent the apostles and disciples out in groups of two to teach the Good News… not the bad news… Jesus’ message was liberation from the Judaic Law by means of loving your brother as yourself. All of the law can be placed in this one sentence, He says. True judgment of the soul and heart is about love and compassion and loving your neighbor as yourself.

The Holy Spirit is simple enough to attain. Like me as an innocent child on my bed calling out for an answer to Daddy God, asking for the Spirit of God to be a part of your life is like plugging yourself into a wall socket of God Power. The power of Spirit is all around you, ever present; but, you must plug into its power to allow it to flow through you. As simple as this act of plugging yourself into the power of Spirit is, you must also believe in your birth right: to be a part of this divine healing power as all children of God have.

So, the answer to the question about why the name of Jesus is either powerful or judgmental to some is that Jesus’s name is like a sword cutting through the negativity to the pure heart of man.

  • If you’re not ready for Truth, the name of Jesus will frighten you.
  • Also, you must separate the name and power of Jesus from any religion or belief pattern from your past.
  • This is a New Day when God is writing his words on the heart of his people. Two will be standing in the field.

One will be saved from the pain of the Earth (pandemics, horrible weather events, fires, tsunamis, war) and one will not. The one who is not taken into God’s loving arms will say, “But, I have called you Lord.” Jesus will respond, “I don’t know you. You have not loved!! You have judged instead. You have caused pain instead of healing. You have discouraged instead of encouraged.”

Yes, Jesus looks at your heart and will judge whether you are ready for the next chapter of life as a spiritual being living in Human body.

With this unction and the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’s name, you must know that you have power over disease, negative thinking, mental illness. To do this, you must get to know that healing power that’s within you. For me, I use meditation and prayer to connect me to the infinite Love of the universes, God through Jesus, who to me is the King of Kings for this Earth.

When Healing Flows like Living Water through your being, you’ll notice you feel led and connected, sleep better, your mind stays affixed on positive things, and you’ll even want to cook better, healthier food to protect your body.

Are you looking for help with anxiety or are you bored at home.

Try this yoga practice below on YouTube I made just for this purpose or give me a call for a 10 minute consultation. I’d love to work through your stress at this time with you.

The process is so simple, it doesn’t make sense that it could result in such a vast change in mind. You could do some seated yoga. I actually made 3 different yoga videos on YouTube you could go to now and enjoy how great you’ll feel if you spend just a little time getting your body free of stress. But, I can’t do it for you. This article about it can make you do it. You  must be a self-started at home, as well as work. Set your mind to a clear schedule of things to do. This would be a brilliant time to learn a new language or clean out the closets.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT PEACE OF MIND

We give away our peace of mind every time we react emotionally to inevitable change. Peace is yours to keep, not give away. So, if you are not experiencing peace, it’s up to you to share why you are anxious with yourself by carrying on a self dialogue. Yes, that’s right. Question yourself. Work it out together with all the parts of your mind (the good, bad, and the ugly). These are the times when we will be closest to our loved ones and also have a great deal of alone time. Use it to your spiritual and physical advantage.

Some friendly reminders about Peace:

  • You are made in the image and by the grace of Peace.
  • Peace doesn’t comprehend pandemonium.
  • Peace of mind is gentle.
  • Peace does not judge you or others.
  • Peace promotes calm and love.
