The Color of Change

I have often spoken of change as the natural course of the Earth. For instance, the color or change in a deciduous tree in the autumn is evident of dying to the old and preparing for rebirth in the Spring. Winter is a time of hibernation. Metaphorically, this is defined as going inward to meet change at full force.

The Color of Change

Lately, in the news we have see how people with color are treated unfairly. These beautiful people have been treated by law officers and a large portion of the population with stigma and prejudice. I have experienced this, as well, as a gay man.

In the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, gay men were mercilessly targeted by the police for being themselves; then soon after persecuted with the AIDs virus. I remember those times while I was living in New York City as if it were yesterday. So many friends coming out, then immediately being taken by AIDs.  It was a difficult right of passage for me. This being said, change happened—is happening. The mere fact that people are documenting evidence of horrifying prejudice is a call for all of us to stand up and press forward into change, not matter if you have or have not experienced prejudice. If you find yourself feeling self-righteous, you are probably needing to take a good look at your own behavior toward all of the people in your life who aren’t exactly like you (color, gender, weight, sexual preference…).

My Story about The Color of Change

I look at my life in stages. Every time a significant change happened in my life, my name changed as well.

  1. When I was a boy, everyone called me Bobby.
  2. When I became a teenager, I insisted on Bob.
  3. When I went to college, friends began to call me Bobo.
  4. When I moved to New York, I took back my given name, Robert Alan Sebastian.
  5. When I moved to Nashville, I decided on Bo, which means abiding with God.
  6. Since my move to Nashville to Florida to be closer to Mom and my four sisters, my life has still undergone significant change, but not like the change that happened when I was growing out of adolescence and into adulthood.

As a very young boy, my life had been fairly normal. However, by 4th Grade, my mother had left her husband, which meant leaving her children. She tried for 7 years to get us back, which changed my world drastically. During this time, when I look back, I think of how this situational changed shaped me into the compassionate man I am today. Having to endure verbal and physical abuse, mockery, and even sexual abuse helped me call out to God and begin a search for truth that I may have never sought. Pain gave birth to Truth.

Trust me, I’m beyond the blame game. I see life as a beautiful place to play, dance in the light, and love; but, most importantly to learn and change. If we didn’t have periodic difficulty, we would get stagnant and never know how strong we truly are. The last real significant difficulty, I met with ease and very little fight. I felt my feelings, then sat alone in prayer and meditation until I was able to feel God’s presence in my situation.

I used to pray that Spirit would give me a break from hurt and change. I had gotten so tired and weary by the time I had been through my 3rd long-term relationship that ended in betrayal. I remember crying every hour on the hour for almost a month. I would schedule client with 15 minutes in between sessions so that I would have time to get out the tears. I needed quiet, which led me directly to my practice of meditation.

You see, as you look back at your life without judgment and become an observer, I’m sure you can clearly see that what you thought were the most horrible times have become the very foundation of truth that only change could plant deeply in your subconscious.

When Healing Flows like Living Water through your being, you’ll notice you feel led and connected, sleep better, your mind stays affixed on positive things, and you’ll even want to cook better, healthier food to protect your body. Are you looking for help with anxiety or are you bored at home.

Try this yoga practice below on YouTube I made just for this purpose or give me a call for a 10 minute consultation. I’d love to work through your stress at this time with you.

The process is so simple, it doesn’t make sense that it could result in such a vast change in mind. You could do some seated yoga. I actually made 3 different yoga videos on YouTube you could go to now and enjoy how great you’ll feel if you spend just a little time getting your body free of stress. But, I can’t do it for you. This article about it can make you do it. You  must be a self-started at home, as well as work. Set your mind to a clear schedule of things to do. This would be a brilliant time to learn a new language or clean out the closets.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT PEACE OF MIND

We give away our peace of mind every time we react emotionally to inevitable change. Peace is yours to keep, not give away. So, if you are not experiencing peace, it’s up to you to share why you are anxious with yourself by carrying on a self dialogue. Yes, that’s right. Question yourself. Work it out together with all the parts of your mind (the good, bad, and the ugly). These are the times when we will be closest to our loved ones and also have a great deal of alone time. Use it to your spiritual and physical advantage.

Some friendly reminders about Peace:

  • You are made in the image and by the grace of Peace.
  • Peace doesn’t comprehend pandemonium.
  • Peace of mind is gentle.
  • Peace does not judge you or others.
  • Peace promotes calm and love.

The Physiology of Hypnotherapy:

By going into a subconscious, light sleep or trance, a hypnotists helps find the pathways connecting your outside stimulus to your negative thoughts (food, smoking, anxiety). The work begins in the frontal cortex of your brain

Disconnect the root cause (stress, relationship problems, no quality ME time) at the foot of the pathway (the place where our response to triggers happens) and build a healthy, new pathway to positive outcomes in your life—a new story for tomorrow.
