Just a Little Different than Yesterday—Changing Your Life’s Story

Just three short years ago, everyday seemed to be just a little different than each yesterday. One day, I had gotten the lead in a national healthcare commercial in both Spanish and English. I was so proud to finally achieve that landmark commercial. I had always dreamed that my commitment to studying acting and Spanish would someday pay off.

I knew I wanted to monopolize that money and spend it on opening a hypnosis office in glorious Las Olas area in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. However, Covid hit just six month to the day we opened. Everything that looked glorious started to crumble, including my finances.  I had to close my brand new hypnosis business because I ran out of money. I applied for government SBA loans, but nothing came in time. I hadn’t even had time to incorporate and create an LLC. So, everything I owned was connected to me personally.  In that moment I did what I never thought I’d have to do. I filed for bankruptcy, very regrettably.

Just a Little Different than Yesterday

I used to think that instead of life being just a little different than the day before, it should be better. This theory had gotten me into hot water when it came to expectation. I had discovered in those dark moments that life is more like the stock market. You make good investments, but you cannot decide where the market is going to go on any given day. You live with your good and bad choices, and hope that tomorrow will be better than yesterday.

Just a Little Different than Yesterday

Grace extends to me in many ways. I know this. However, I can’t change a process that is much like a body convalescing from a serious operation. You can’t tell a bone break to heal hastily. It takes as long as it takes. Neither can you expect your emotions to feel better when you decide they should.

This being said, my husband Dave and I never gave up. We took time every day to visualize our prosperity. We knew what we wanted. We each wanted to work a healthy, prosperous job. Plus, each one of us wanted to work in our perspective artist field—mine in acting, singing and playing piano; Dave is a painter and graphic artist.

So, with that being said, we repurposed everything and went back to the drawing board. I bought groceries from a Christian warehouse and cooked almost every meal, including our lunches. We both worked 2-3 jobs at the same time. Since I went into bankruptcy, Dave reopened the Hypnosis business in his name. I still ran it, though. Dave got a great new job after Covid at a modeling agency working with photography and graphics. We both continued to do our art, as well. I also wrote a new book during Covid about alleviating stress and eliminating the fearful chatter in the brain. It’s called “Zeroing-Out,” based on an idea I received during a meditation, which I continued to do everyday and use with every client.

I never stopped working as an artist or a hypnotist. In fact, Covid brought new hypnosis clients from every city, because Ft. Lauderdale happened to be one of the few cities allowed to keep some businesses open. My office had twelve feet from my clients. It was completely Covid-safe. I went from nothing to 30 clients a week. I went from rating 45th on Google to one in six months. (picture below proving that)

I couldn’t make my broken life mend in a day. Nor could I change my life on a dime. Life takes time. Love takes more time. Healing takes a lifetime, it seems. But never lose hope.

I remember breaking my arm when I was young. It doesn’t hurt anymore. In fact, that same arm is very strong. I remember a painful divorce from the man to whom I thought I’d spend my life. I don’t feel sad about him anymore. I remember my mom and sister dying. I don’t cry about that much, either. I’m not emotionless. I believe, however, that sadness has to wane to make way for a new story in your life—a rewrite.

We are living, breathing humans with emotions who are far more intelligent than any other mammal. With intelligence comes reason, deduction, and memory. With these highly developed skills, we must take our healing time to the next level. We must allow our souls to inch past our pain and wait in joyful expectation for tomorrow’s better day.

Three years from the day I chose to give up on my financial situation, Dave and I just bought our first place together in an amazing condominium in beautiful Boca Raton, Florida. We thought we had been living in a great apartment on a lake for 7 years. This new place exceeds all of our dreams. I sometimes feel like an imposter walking into our 1750 sq ft. home with an amazing view.

I still wait cautiously for the next day, never expecting a bad day but watching as I would the Stockmarket. Today I’m here to explain that a new day with new chances is possible.

  • Make a plan.
  • Continue to believe in that plan, everyday.
  • Work hard.

If you do these three things, I guarantee your life will change for the better.

The Physiology of Hypnotherapy:

By going into a subconscious, light sleep or trance, a hypnotists helps find the pathways connecting your outside stimulus to your negative thoughts (food, smoking, anxiety). The work begins in the frontal cortex of your brain

Disconnect the root cause (stress, relationship problems, no quality ME time) at the foot of the pathway (the place where our response to triggers happens) and build a healthy, new pathway to positive outcomes in your life—a new story for tomorrow.
