Depression

Depression happens to everyone. It’s not a terrible disease that only inflicts the mentally ill. Depression is simply:

  1. a feeling of no will,
  2. loss of direction, and
  3. a general feeling of fatigue for life.

As it is described above, I believe that almost everyone has felt this lack of will and gusto, especially if you are over thirty with adult responsibilities.

However, when you get depressed, how do you know when you need to get some help?

When to Get Help for Depression

If depression lasts for longer than a week or 10 days, it is generalizing and could become ongoing. The first thing to do is to talk with someone. Reach out, even if to a friend or a family member. If a person is too depressed to even talk to someone, this is often the person who is in the most precarious situation. The isolation and lack of communication with a caring soul can often lead to abandoning self-worth and will.

When someone comes to me with depression and anxiety, usually their bodies have already begun memorizing the symptoms and stop producing the two common ingredients that our bodies create to give us a sense of wellbeing and desire to press forward—serotonin and norepinephrine.

Fighting Depression

Serotonin is a chemical that carries messages between nerve cells in the brain and throughout your body. Serotonin plays a key role in such body functions as mood, sleep, digestion, nausea, wound healing, bone health, blood clotting and sexual desire.

Norepinephrine, also known as noradrenaline, is both a neurotransmitter and a hormone. It plays an important role in your body’s “fight-or-flight” response. As a medication, norepinephrine is used to increase and maintain blood pressure in limited, short-term serious health situations.

As you can see from the explanations above, these are not necessarily anti-depressants. However, when we are given a medication that produces these chemicals in our body, the result is a calming effect (serotonin) and a motivating effect as in norepinephrine.

Ultimately, we can get our brains to function as if we are not depressed, but when the chemical issues are resolved (usually 3 weeks of taking an antidepressant), then we can begin working out the problem feelings and life shifts that need to happen to gain true happiness and peace.

Try this yoga practice below on YouTube I made just for this purpose or give me a call for a 10 minute consultation. I’d love to work through your stress at this time with you.

The process is so simple, it doesn’t make sense that it could result in such a vast change in mind. You could do some seated yoga. I actually made 3 different yoga videos on YouTube you could go to now and enjoy how great you’ll feel if you spend just a little time getting your body free of stress. But, I can’t do it for you. This article about it can make you do it. You  must be a self-started at home, as well as work. Set your mind to a clear schedule of things to do. This would be a brilliant time to learn a new language or clean out the closets.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT PEACE OF MIND

We give away our peace of mind every time we react emotionally to inevitable change. Peace is yours to keep, not give away. So, if you are not experiencing peace, it’s up to you to share why you are anxious with yourself by carrying on a self dialogue. Yes, that’s right. Question yourself. Work it out together with all the parts of your mind (the good, bad, and the ugly). These are the times when we will be closest to our loved ones and also have a great deal of alone time. Use it to your spiritual and physical advantage.

Some friendly reminders about Peace:

  • You are made in the image and by the grace of Peace.
  • Peace doesn’t comprehend pandemonium.
  • Peace of mind is gentle.
  • Peace does not judge you or others.
  • Peace promotes calm and love.

Peace Helps You Keep Your Retrospect in Check

Narcissistic abuse is a form of emotional and psychological abuse. It is primarily inflicted by individuals who have either narcissistic personality disorder (NPD, which is characterized by a lack of empathy), or antisocial personality disorder (ASPD, also known as sociopaths or psychopaths), and is associated with the absence of a conscience.  More than enough fish in the sea.

Poco a Poco

I learn a lot from my dog. Everything in his life is just a tiny bit different than life was yesterday. Every day he manages to wake up at the exact same time. When he comes in from outside, he expects a treat. When you give him a tiny treat, he sits there with a look on his face that says, you are cheating me.  When I sit on the couch, he will jump up next to me. When I try to brush him, he looks at me with dismay. When he needs to go out, he goes to the door and cries just a little.

Just a Little Different than Yesterday

I used to think that instead of life being just a little different than the day before, it should be better than yesterday. This theory has gotten me into hot water when it comes to expectation. Life is more like the stock market. You make good investments, but you can not decide where the market is going on any given day. You live with your good and bad choices, and hope that tomorrow will be better. At least, that’s what I discovered recently when my mom died.

Just a Little Different than Yesterday

Grace extends to me in many ways. I know this. I want to be okay. I don’t want to be grieving any longer than I need to about anything. However, I can’t change a process that is much like a body convalescing from a serious operation. You can’t tell a bone break to heal hastily. It takes as long as it takes. Neither can you expect your emotions to feel better when you decide they should.

Lately, I’ve been waking up wondering if the same day is going to keep happening over and over again until I manage to heal. I have many clients who come to me daily and ask me to help them heal of emotional trauma. I tell them that the best you can do is look for your blessings every day and don’t waste your time looking at your past. My life often mirrors my clients.

When past pain stares me down from the gun muzzle every day, I begin to wonder how to turn off the pain and get on with life. Again, healing takes time. I remind myself this. I can’t make my broken heart mend in a day. Nor can I change my life on a dime. Life takes time. Love takes more time. Healing takes a lifetime, it seems.

However, I remember breaking my arm when I was young. It doesn’t hurt anymore. In fact, at same arm is very strong. I remember a painful divorce from the man to whom I thought I’d spend my life. I don’t feel sad about hi now. I remember my dad dying. I don’t feel sad about that now, either.

We are living, breathing humans with emotions who are far more intelligent than any other mammal. With intelligence comes reason, deduction, and memory. With these highly developed skills, we must take our healing time to the next level. We must allow our souls to inch past our pain and wait in joyful expectation for tomorrow’s better day.

I wait cautiously for the next day, never expecting a bad day, However, expecting a new day with new chances to be strong.

The Physiology of Hypnotherapy:

By going into a subconscious, light sleep or trance, a hypnotists helps find the pathways connecting your outside stimulus to your negative thoughts (food, smoking, anxiety). The work begins in the frontal cortex of your brain

Disconnect the root cause (stress, relationship problems, no quality ME time) at the foot of the pathway (the place where our response to triggers happens) and build a healthy, new pathway to positive outcomes in your life—a new story for tomorrow.
