Can Hypnosis Help You Lose Weight?
When it Really Matters

Can Hypnosis Help You Lose Weight?

Hypnosis can help you lose weight if you change your thinking about food. I have been a hypnotherapist for 32 years and watched clients lose hundreds of pounds over the years. However, those who lose weight and keep it off are those who love their health more than they love unhealthy food and large portions.

Can Hypnosis Help Change Behavior, then?

Hypnosis can help you take off the pounds if you go modify old behavior patterns and choose to correct them in the mind first. I had one overweight client come in for 10 sessions for her mind before she ever began the process of losing weight.  Those who get off of the perpetual lose-and-gain-back yoyo are those who work on dealing with the thoughts that cause them to eat—boredom, cravings, and anxiousness.

Hypnotherapy is designed to help people uncover deeply seated ideas from their childhood, relationships, and habit forming thoughts that provide comfort in the form of food. I think this might include about 90% of people

I have had my own midlife struggle with weight. I never put on more than 30 pounds. But on a small frame like me, taking 30 pounds off was probably as hard as taking 100 off of a person is has a large frame.

Hypnotherapy Helps Modify Eating Patterns that come from Anxiety, Boredom, and Self-hate

The majority of people coming to hypnotherapy for weight loss have been people over 50 or 60. The reason for this is because body chemistry changes with age. Because of this, we must change our eating habits to deal with this significant change. I now only eat two meals a day and two very small snacks (an apple, a handful of unsalted nuts and raisins, is my go-to snack.

My Life with Weight Loss and Hypnosis

When I turned 30 (33 years ago), I remember getting a fat content test at the gym. From the time I was young until that day, my problem had been keeping weight on my body. I was skinny, a size 28 waste. So, when I discovered that I had 22% body fat by the practitioner grabbing my back fat and measuring it, I was mortified. I had never even looked at my back.

This began my process of learning to eat for health. As most of you know, I have been some kind of vegetarian or vegan since 19 years old. I have always known how to eat for health, but some of my choices and the amount I ate had to change. At 30, I simply had to eliminate some simple carbs, unhealthy snacks, and listen to my body for when to stop eating. When you’re younger, losing weight is easier because most of us are more active. With the dawn of overuse of cellphones and social media, more children are morbidly obese.  Limiting computer time and gaming is imperative to help these kids.

I am from a family who was fairly poor. Getting seconds at the dinner table was rare. In fact, those siblings who got seconds were one of the six children who were the most aggressive or the ones who ate the fastest. This caused me to eat quickly. When you eat too fast, your appestat doesn’t have the chance to tell your brain that you are full. This was my biggest problem as a young man.

A spiritual friend told me that if I chewed my food slowly, thanking God for all the people who touched my food before it appeared on my plate, I would probably be eating slowly enough for my appestat to begin working again. This helped a lot—when food didn’t taste delicious. However, I’m a chef, so food generally tasted really good and savory. This makes stopping even harder. However, putting a proper portion on my plate and not taking seconds was my first thrust forward in exercising my will over my perceived hunger.

Next, exercise is a large portion of maintaining a healthy weight. I find that people who are in pain have the most trouble with this part of the process. We all must find a way to activate our healthy hearts with some kind of movement for at least 20 minutes a day. I used to do yoga every day for an hour. As a 62 year old with 6 bulging disks, exercise had to change, too.

If you are in pain you can bounce on a fitness ball, walk more often, or swim. Even walking around a swimming pool can help you lose weight. Mostly importantly, I always do some form of stomach exercises. We can all find some kind of abdominal work that doesn’t hurt. I have found as a hypnotist, eating better doesn’t do much when you are sedentary. You must get off of your chair for at least 20 minutes twice a day. If you’re not losing weight, but doing hypnosis, and haven’t begun exercising, you probably will plateau with your weight regimen quickly. Most people do. Find some form of exercise. This is a requirement for weight loss.

Lastly, emotions matter in dealing with fluctuating weight. If you haven’t dealt with your anger, pain, bad relationships, and work anxiety, you will hold onto your fat content, because of the chemicals these emotions emit in the body. Cortisol and epinephrine will keep weight on the body every time.

So, the answer to the question: can hypnosis help you to lose weight is yes. That is, if you’re ready to change your mind about food and exercise.  You can call me to talk  more. 954-253-6493

DON’T FORGET ABOUT PEACE OF MIND

We give away our peace of mind every time we react emotionally to inevitable change. Peace is yours to keep, not give away. So, if you are not experiencing peace, it’s up to you to share why you are anxious with yourself by carrying on a self dialogue. Yes, that’s right. Question yourself. Work it out together with all the parts of your mind (the good, bad, and the ugly). These are the times when we will be closest to our loved ones and also have a great deal of alone time. Use it to your spiritual and physical advantage.

Some friendly reminders about Peace:

  • You are made in the image and by the grace of Peace.
  • Peace doesn’t comprehend pandemonium.
  • Peace of mind is gentle.
  • Peace does not judge you or others.
  • Peace promotes calm and love.

Peace Helps You Keep Your Retrospect in Check

Psychology Today says that “it’s not bad to have negative thoughts …

We just have to stop believing them!” (Change your unhealthy thought process to a positive connection with Hypnotherapy.) Don’t avoid the Ripple!

Narcissistic abuse is a form of emotional and psychological abuse. It is primarily inflicted by individuals who have either narcissistic personality disorder (NPD, which is characterized by a lack of empathy), or antisocial personality disorder (ASPD, also known as sociopaths or psychopaths), and is associated with the absence of a conscience.  More than enough fish in the sea.

The Physiology of Hypnotherapy:

By going into a subconscious, light sleep or trance, a hypnotists helps find the pathways connecting your outside stimulus to your negative thoughts (food, smoking, anxiety). The work begins in the frontal cortex of your brain

Disconnect the root cause (stress, relationship problems, no quality ME time) at the foot of the pathway (the place where our response to triggers happens) and build a healthy, new pathway to positive outcomes in your life—a new story for tomorrow.
