Anxiety from the Past
When a therapist examines a patient for anxiety from the past, inevitably the problem becomes a constant block to the true potential reality of the future. Sometimes, anxiety gets so bad that the patient becomes completely afraid of the now, expecting that any moment of the future will be a recapitulation of the past.
Anxiety from the Past
Anxiety from the Past must be confronted by exercising your power over the fear of the present, not the future. If you think the next moment will be an exact copy of the past, you will never be able to resolve your anxiety. Don’t worry, there is hope.
The problem exists in the story in your mind.
Humans are so lucky to have a constant narrator to tell us everything that has happened in the past. (I’m being sarcastic.) The problem is that this narrator in the brain is the only voice keeping you locked into your fears. Expanding the reality of your brain beyond the narrator of the past—to the Mind—our connection to something greater, to the peace of the Now, and the potential of a bright future, only exists when the human brain is connected to the Infinite Mind of Spirit.
My Experience with Anxiety from the Past
When you believe that the story you hear in your brain is me telling me my limits, you only believe that you are capable of re-enacting the anxious behavior of the past. There is relief coming. Read on.
So, how do you check out of the Narrator brain and plug into the the Mind?
The act of conscious connection to the Infinite mind is so important. Personally, I’m a Christian. I simply ask that God send me the comforter or Holy Spirit in Jesus’s name. This action and even the words I gleaned from reading the New Testament in the “Lord’s Prayer” helps me find connection to something greater and also leads me to my personal purpose. Formal or informal prayer doesn’t matter. The fact that you initiate contact to a Spiritual existence beyond yourself is what’s important.
Anyway you look at it, checking in and plugging in to the Mind of God is a necessary daily activity that brings enlightenment and provides us with the energy we need to get through each day.
You couldn’t use your laptop or cellphone without charging it. How much more do you need to be charged with Spirit’s energy of light and love each day to manage the constant needs of every day life? This is not only important, it is essential to press the “mute button” on the past and the narrator of the past.
There is space between your exhale (metaphorically your past) and your inhale (metaphorically your future). In that space is the magic potential that links you to the peace of God and the hope of a better future. If you can find that two seconds of nothingness, then you can begin to imagine five seconds of peace. From there, your peace grows from seconds to minutes, minutes to hours, hours to days of calm and true faith in the future.
The purpose of this blog is to realize that the stories in the brain are impulses from Spirit to help us heal, if we are willing to take the time to understand our own pain. Most of us want to avoid it. But, if you are tired of reliving your stories over and over again, try learning to become the observer of your mind. Restore and Renew Your Mind. So, if you are not experiencing peace, it’s up to you to share why you are anxious with yourself by carrying on a self dialogue. Yes, that’s right. Question yourself. Work it out together with all the parts of your mind (the good, bad, and the ugly). These are the times when we will be closest to our loved ones and also have a great deal of alone time. Use it to your spiritual and physical advantage.
